4th Annual Alphabet – The Finale

V IS FOR VISION.

Photographers have vision, even if it’s partly obscured by fog on the lake.

W IS FOR WANDERING.

The Photographer's Shadow

Photographers are prone to wander, near and far, in urban areas and in rural areas.

X IS FOR eXPERIMENT.

Photographers are prone to experiments. Maybe it’s an iPhone app through a windshield while riding in a car going 65 mph.

Two Ferns - Pop Art

Maybe it’s experimenting with different types of paper – metallic, pearl, heavy rag, canvas. And experimenting with digital manipulations for hours and hours and hours.

Y IS FOR YARD SALES.

Photographers take photos of almost anything. Even a pile of colored jugs with interesting shadows can make a great photographic subject.

Z IS FOR ZENITH.

Clouds and Crescent Moon

And photographers take photographs whenever they can. Every day. Photographers point their cameras and aim for the moon. Or the cotton candy clouds. Or the stars.

And to quote  David Alan Harvey, “A photographer doesn’t shoot what it looks like. A photographer shoots what it feels like.”

The end!

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. All good things must come to an end and so does you annual alphabet. The way you matched photos with the letters is very intriguing and creative. I thoroughly enjoyed this year’s edition.

Yes, and it’s good that the alphabet only has 26 letters. This was quite a project! Thanks for following, Gandalf.

  2. Vision and experiment especially appeal to me!

    • Bo Mackison says

I like those concepts as applied to photography, too, Anita. Vision is essential, experiment is stretching, and then a dose of fun when shooting and post-processing makes it all nearly perfect.

  3. So glad I tuned in today. These photos are amazing. Of course I love the bike picture. But I’m also keen on the Harvey quote. I’m not sure if I’ve thought about my own photography in that way, but now that I am considering it, it sounds exactly right. Otherwise, I’d just point and shoot.

It’s a great quote. I find that is how I shoot most of my photos. And yes, Bike Lady would like a photo of a bike. 🙂

  4. “Thankful there are only 26 letters in the alphabet!” LOL! I’m starting at the end and moving backwards today, Bo, and am looking forward to the next installment of alphabet. LOVE the pots, btw. I’m such a fool for pottery!

  5. Had to scroll down and read thru your alphabet series again. Just love this. So clever. So creative. Such fun!!!

  6. I changed my profile on Google and accidentally changed my profile on my blog at the same time–to my real name. I’m no longer BikeLady. 🙁
