A Walk in the Woods – Owen Conservation Park in Color

A Walk in the Woods © 2010 Bo Mackison

I think of this time of autumn — after most of the leaves have fallen, before the first snow falls — as a dull, colorless time of the year. This photograph proves me incorrect. Blue skies, a bit of yellow and green still on the bushes, and red fallen leaves mixed amongst the brown. Color all around. Just for the looking.

Photographed in Owen Conservation Park, Madison Wisconsin.

Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Lovely photo. You just have to lower your eyes now and all the colour is still there, even if only for a few days.

  2. Stunning!!! Yes..the color is definitely still there. Just not so much on the trees anymore!

  3. Bo, I can hardly believe how alike you and I seem to be in so many ways. When I first saw your post this morning I thought, “Hmmm, how many years ago was it that I wrote almost exactly the same words, “looking for colour”. I too, often see this time of year as dull and lifeless. But certainly, if we look, the colour IS all around.

    Beautiful capture.

    Angels be with you Bo.

  4. Beautiful colors! I love the carpet of leaves.

  5. You captured so great color, Bo! Your leaves are very pretty even on the ground. Many of our leaves here have fallen now too. Today I walked for a few miles on a carpet of golden larch needles.

  6. Owen Conservation Park must be a special place. You wander there often. This photo captures the transiting season. I’ll miss summer, but winter is ski time. 🙂

  7. Colors and textures of autumn. Delicious, Bo.

  8. “Just walking along, the crunch of colorful leaves fallen from the surrounding trees beneath my feet as they blanket the earth floor.”
