Candles in Santa Fe

Candles and Copper Crosses

Candles, Crosses, and Copper ©2008 Bo Mackison

Santa Fe’s history is steeped in its religious heritage. The majestic Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, just one block east of the historic Santa Fe Plaza, was dedicated in 1886. The church is currently being renovated, but it still full of mystique even covered with interior scaffolding and canvas tarps.

I love this copper votive holder with its crudely rendered crosses. The flickering lights made a striking visual in the darkened interior of the church.

Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. 1. Ah, there you are. I missed you the last couple of days and was wondering how your journey was progressing.

The skies are so beautiful in Santa Fe at night… if you have some free time and are interested try a long exposure around 45 secs at ISO 100 with the in-camera noise reduction on and a wide angle. You might be able to catch some of the stars with a landscape silhouette.

  2. Such a warm, beautiful shot. Thanks for sharing your journey, Bo.

  3. Very nice shot. The copper is, indeed, very warm. Nice time of year to be in SF–not so many tourists.

  4. I love copper and I love candles and I love the combination of both.

  5. I wonder what it’s like there on los dios de los muertos

  6. you are waxing mystic. Nice post.
