Capitol at Dusk

Capitol at Dusk

Capitol at Dusk ©2008 Bo Mackison

Walked around the Capitol Square on Monday evening. It wasn’t your typical mid-June stroll – I had on jeans and a heavy sweatshirt – but it was a pleasant night, a tad windy. I dragged my tripod and camera around for a couple of hours. Shot the sunset over Lake Mendota, the flooding in the Tenney Locks area, and finally wandered around the Capitol.

Set this up at dusk just as the Capitol Building’s lights turned on, and managed this shot while positioned in the middle of Washington Avenue. The drivers of the passing cars were kind enough to avoid hitting me and my tripod, though “my Sherpa” was keeping watch.. No editing this time.

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. Very nice. 🙂

  2. What is the figure on top of the Capitol Building? On the top of the Topeka, Kansas Capitol Building is a Native American with a bow and arrow pointing to the stars. The Kansas State Motto – “Ad astra per aspera” – To the stars through difficulties. What is Wisconsin’s? That is a nice nightime shot of the Capital. Glad you had your Sherpa keeping watch. 🙂

    I’m a sucker for things with this sort of lighting. It just seems to add a surreal feeling to the whole scene.

    And I’m glad you didn’t get hit, that would suck.

  4. Strange & wonderful hues in the twilight. I enjoyed the shot.

  5. Perfect!

  6. This is really nice Bo !

  7. This should be a postcard for tourists…or in a flyer to bring people to this fine city/landmark…you have such a gift, Bo!

  8. It is a really wonderful shot. The colors. Twilight is my favorite time, and this is so rich, so sharp, and captures that just dark time of day so vividly.

    It’s a wonderful shot.

    Funny though, I just came from reading a blog post at UU Deist in Texas where he talked about drunk-drivers purposely ‘buzzing’ bicyclists from their car, often killing them.

    Do be careful;
