Claret Cup Blossoms

407. Cactus

Cactus at Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix

I love the desert in spring when many of the cactus are in bloom. In spring the desert is green with life, and filled with bright flowers–white yucca, pink or yellow cholla, yellow prickly pear. And giant white blossoms on the handsome saguaro.

So different from the spring gardens in Wisconsin, and they are so beautiful in their own wonderful way.

Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. 1. This is what I photographed a few weeks ago in Austin.

  2. That is a wonderful capture of cactus blossoms!

  3. What a great photo. I’m still waiting on mine to bloom. No sign at all of even putting on buds. Last year, it had nine flowers open all at the same time.

Those blooms are the most lovely dusty rose color. How can something so delicate grow on such a prickly plant?

By the way, I’m another teardrop admirer. My husband and I would love to have one.

  6. wonderful color
