Endless Journey

Endless Road

Endless Road © 2011 Bo Mackison

Her thoughts followed endless roads.
Her mind created endless ideas.
Her dreams told endless sagas, no story line.

She felt out of context.
Small things were struggles.
She could solve puzzles if she had enough time, though there was never enough time.

She took herself apart and put herself back together.
There were left over parts.
How would she re-attach the left over pieces?

She wondered who she would be — or what — in her next life.
She remained hopeful.
She forgot to sweep the floors or polish the mirrors.
Crumbs collected on the soles of her socks, but she never looked in the mirrors anyway.

Her words disturbed the peace when she spoke.
Her words were the impatient part and never waited for her brain.

She lost important papers.
She didn’t watch TV.
She didn’t follow recipes.
She didn’t follow rules, well, not all of the rules all of the time.

Rules were tricky.
Boundaries were tricky, too.
Was the grass greener on the other side of the fence?

She kept busy.
She wasn’t bored but she did get lonely.
She was no longer desperate. She knew
hope. She could hold it in her hands.

She had a camera.

She took pictures and hung them on her walls.

Bo sometimes writes poems, seldom shares them. Winter solstice seemed like the right time to share this poem.

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

Comments

  1. That road to the horizon is just about perfect. And the poem is a whole meal without dessert, eaten at a beat-up diner with duct-taped vinyl seats somewhere along that road.

  2. Joanna Paterson says

I love this poem Bo, and all that you have shared over the last few days. I feel like I’m being gifted a glimpse of the centre of a beautiful flower.

  3. I’m not much of a poetry person, but this piece is struck a chord, and the photo is fascinatingly dreamy, mystical.

  4. The end of the day is always a rather dreamy place, Gandalf. Good of you to read the poem, even if that isn’t your typical. Sometimes the out of the ordinary is a good thing.

  5. Gorgeous photo… I love the mood. And I love the poem, Bo, as it touches within as if the words that are seldom spoken and thoughts not shared are exposed. Photo and poem go well together.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours!

  6. Wonderful poem, Bo. I’m so glad you decided to share it. 🙂

  7. I shouldn’t read pages and pages of posts in your blog in just one sitting for I feel I run out of adjectives. “Atmospheric,” fits. The photograph sets a definite mood which is perfectly reflected in your poem. I bow in your general direction, Bo. This has to be one of my favorite posts. XO
