Fields of Hay

The trees are bare, the ground has a foot thick blanket of snow.
I feel a bit deceived when the calendar claims there are still 10 more days of autumn.

  1. Odd to see hay bales sitting on snow like this..but it sure makes for a wonderful image. A winter to remember?!?!?!

  2. Richard Lovison says

Ah, you have snow. We’ve had warm temperatures and rain. Another storm is expected later this afternoon that will bring an icy mix into tomorrow. Arggg!

btw, are you using the auto white balance feature in your camera? If so, stop doing that when shooting outdoor landscapes. 🙂 Set it to 5300K for sunlit scenes or 6000K if shooting on dreary, cloud covered days.

I was just curious as your color balance in the above shot seems to be shifted a bit toward the green and blue.

  3. Richard Lovison says

Oops, should have wrote “shifted a bit toward the green and cyan.”

  4. Looks like a nice winter scene.

  5. Thanks, Rick – I use auto about a third of the time, usually when I’m pulling my camera out of my bag as the Sherpa is hurtling down country roads. (A bit of a conflict of interest there – he wants to get where he’s going; I want to stop frequently and meander) I need to be more precise. Thanks for the reminder. No excuse for the white balance being off at this point. I’ll re-do the tones, see if I can get them better.

  6. Ron in L.A. says

Nice scene Bo, a little too cold, but nice… 🙂

  7. I adore this shot, Bo. Rounded bales of hay are a favorite sight here during autumn. Some remain to this day as it is STILL autumn, although the thermometer indicates otherwise. Lovely!

  8. I am finding, believe it or not, that I am thrilled to get the camera out this winter! The snow and light here near Lake Michigan really appeal to my eyes…go figure!

  9. Cold autumn, but a very pretty scene!

  10. Your world up there is mighty picturesque.

  11. Well, the scene is beautiful, but WOW. You weren’t joking when you say the season is long there.

  12. Yeah, I know what you mean.

It’s a beautiful scene you captured, though, snow and all. 🙂
