“Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair…” ~ Susan Polis Shutz

This array of stunning white coneflowers makes ME want to go dance in the sun!

The coneflowers are abundant this year in the prairie spaces of Wisconsin. Perhaps one of the gifts that comes with the record-breaking rainfalls we’ve had this spring and early summer. Every prairie space is white and purple with the waving, dancing, bouncing cone flowers, their bright orange heads bobbing, their brilliant rays fluttering.

It is nearly impossible to walk among hundreds of coneflowers and not dance and sing, if not with your body, then surely with your heart and soul.

There are coneflowers dancing upon one of the walls in the children’s area!

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. Wonderful photo. Coneflowers are among my favorites.

  2. I’d love to see that many at once!

  3. The word “Prairie” is an absolute favorite of mine. It brings forth a deep feeling of history. Perhaps because prairies are mentioned so much in books I read long ago about our country’s past – settlements and wagon trains and ventures westward. Perhaps it’s due to Little House on the Prairie. When I saw my first prairie I literally wept. Reading about those you visit and seeing your images makes me want to experience one again, and soon. LOVELY coneflowers – I’ve never seen any more beautiful!

A prairie isn’t quite a prairie without my beloved coneflowers, dancing like ballerinas! Thank you, Debi for sharing your prairie experiences, too!

  4. Ahhhh… it makes me want to dance too! (And really, it’s FAR too hot to be dancing in the sun here!)

I used to live in Wisconsin, it makes me miss those pretty flowers that grew on my lawn and yes, I too used to dance around with my sisters amongst the coneflowers. Great post!
