Lake Monona, View from Olbrich Gardens Formal Pool

Hidden Horizon © 2010 Bo Mackison

Olbrich Botanical Gardens has a variety of themed gardens including this formal garden with a reflecting pool. My favorite part of this garden is the view – not only can you see the formal gardens, but you can see Lake Monona in the view beyond.

Olbrich Gardens is located in Madison, one of the prettiest cities in the Midwest. Madison’s boundaries not only include one large lake, but four. Almost 20% of the area inside Madison’s city limits is comprised of lake, so it is easy to find a shore and take in a water view.

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. Nice scene, well composed. The title is perfect! I love seeing water and shore views.

  2. To me, this looks like a beautiful postcard from a gracious time in the past. Slightly mysterious with that hidden horizon, the eye can shift around the page and make up wonderful stories of trysts and plots!

  3. Such a lovely, peaceful scene. I’d like to step into it, take a seat on a bench, and just enjoy the surroundings.

  4. Wonderful framing. Love the symmetry..the geometry. Such an endearing scene.

  5. Sweet!!!

  6. Very lovely and peaceful. It almost gives you the desire to sit there all day doesn’t it?
