Leaves of Lettuce

Lotsa Lettuce

“Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you.
You must travel it by yourself.
It is not far. It is within reach.
Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know.
Perhaps it is everywhere – on water and land.”
~ Walt Whitman, from Leaves of Grass

Leaves of grass? Leaves of lettuce? Close…

I love this lettuce garden at Madison’s Olbrich Botanical Gardens. It’s not every lettuce bed that is planted so that it is garden art.

Yummy, too!

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. I love the look of all that lettuce lined up like that! I especially love how the leaves look with the sun shining on them; it makes it look like the leaves are emitting light themselves. And it all looks quite tasty as well – I can’t wait until the lettuce in my garden grows enough so that I can start having fresh salads with it again.

  2. Great lines of lettuce. I’m thinking I should be eating a bit more of it – pants are a little tight. 🙂

  3. Gorgeous. It certainly is a work of art. (And it looks delicious!)
