Milkweed Pods

at Salmo Pond

at Salmo Pond

The first tastes of Spring! Sunshine and temps in the high 50s and low 60s the last two days have melted much of the snow. When I walk on the grass, I sog in about an inch. The ground is still frozen, and so sloppy mud is everywhere.

I finally went outdoors on a prolonged photo walk, and brought home about 150 photos. I found these remnants of milkweed pods at the edge of Salmo Pond near the Black Earth Watershed west of Madison. Red twig dogwoods lent the background a reddish tint.  I didn’t see even a hint of green. Tomorrow we are to have solid rain–and maybe up to an inch of sleet–throughout the day, so there will be more thawing. Something green is certain to appear soon.

  1. “Black Earth Watershed.” The name conjures up all manner of visions. Winter brings its own beauty in such places, but I’m ready for spring as well. Lovely photo. Hang in there – spring is coming.

These are so lovely. There is something about Milkweed that just lends itself to fairy homes and boats. And the promise of Spring.

  3. Lovely detail..and so uplifting. We’re having much of the same weather..at last. Spring is just around the corner???

Love the color in these…so soft, muted, and “earthy.”

  5. Well it seems that ski season will be over soon in my neck of the woods. If so, then let’s get rid of the mushy snow and bring on some better weather. Perhaps with daylight savings time the sun will stay out longer and melt the rest. 🙂

  6. i like the shape and the fuzzy bkgd

  7. I love milkweeds . . . then again what monarch doesn’t!

  8. I love the reddish color behind the milkweed. And how its blurry.
