Off We Go…

...On a Wild Blue Wander

...Off on a Wild Blue Wander © 2011 Bo Mackison

It’s that time again. I miss those deep blue skies I seem to see only in the western part of the United States, and I feel a need for a bit of an adventure.

Time to escape the north for a few weeks, and hope that when we return, spring will be resplendent in its full regalia. We’re packing our trailer for two–a cute little teardrop about the size of a decent closet–and we’re heading south until we reach Texas. Then we’ll turn west and drive until we find Arizona. I’ve just gotten an update from the Phoenix area–the temps  hit 90˚F yesterday and the thermometer in the pool now reads 72.1˚. Considering that a few days ago, when I dressed to go outside for a couple of hours, I wore a turtleneck, a sweater, jeans, and a parka and boots, those temps sound idyllic. Swimwear is near the top of my packing list!

The house-sitters (doubling as cat-sitters for Jazz) have even agreed to do a bit of home maintenance while we’re gone, so we will return to a house with a no-longer-dripping kitchen faucet and a freshly turned garden. How perfect is that!

We’ll be winding our way through the Missouri Ozarks, across Oklahoma, into the canyons of the panhandle of Texas and up the peaks in the Guadalupe Mountains. There’s also plans for a stop at Carlsbad Caverns, then across New Mexico and finally into Arizona with visits in Sedona, Phoenix, and Tucson (and the nearby National Parks) before turning around and heading back to our starting point.

Except for the week we are in Arizona, I think our Internet access is going to be tentative, to say the least. I’ll post a travel photo when I can, but I won’t be hanging around the computer too much.

I cleaned my camera and lenses, and everything will soon be neatly packed.  My itchy shutter finger will finally get plenty of photo opportunities that do NOT include snow and mud.  (I’m crossing my fingers on that one!)

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  3. Wow, I wish I could meet you there, in Sedona. I love Arizona/New Mexico. The Indian reservations. The stark red rocks and the blue sky. You’re going to bring us back the most wonderful pictures and your unique perspective on what you see…

which is the second best thing to being there

  9. Have a wonderful and safe trip.

  10. It’s entirely immature of me to say this, but I AM VERY JEALOUS! I WANNA GO! (…stamping feet, pouty face, lower lip stuck out…) I miss Arizona SO MUCH! That place gets under your skin and lives in a special place in your soul. Breathe in the air for me at Montezuma’s Castle where that special flowering shrub grows that smells so sweet. Oh, and the clean air..the clean air! Don’t forget the luscious sycamores, and Oak Creek Canyon and … stop it, Debi…just stop it already. HAVE FUN, Bo!!!!! No…don’t think of me. No, really. I’ll be fine. (LOL!)

Awesome. I hope you have a nice trip Bo. I am always a bit hesitant writing about upcoming trips myself for fear people will break into my house.

I hope to read about your travels. I think these days there are hardly any hotels that do not offer internet, so you don’t have any excuse for not writing.

I see. My cat would be the first to run and hide and then she would drop at a burglars feet begging to cuddle.
I guess I am not as lucky as you in that respect.
Sometimes I check my blogs from my iPhone. I don’t need WiFi, but its a pain.
