Pine Forest

After the Snow Storm

After the Snow Storm

We all travel the milky way together, trees and men… trees are travellers, in the ordinary sense.  They make journeys, not very extensive ones, it is true:  but our own little comes and goes are only little more than tree-wavings – many of them not so much.  ~John Muir, Scribner’s Monthly, November 1878

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. Black and white is an excellent choice for this image. Looks very peaceful and quiet. Is this by any chance some form of a “tree farm?” The rows look so straight.

  3. I enjoyed the sun flitting in and out of the tree rows.

  5. Sue — 50+ years ago huge areas in Wisconsin were planted with trees – in rows! Sometimes schoolchildren did the plantings. Some of our forests, huge trees now, are all in rows. I thought it very odd when I first came to Wisconsin.

  9. Love these snow shots. I’m thinking about a little image blur or multiple exposure just to see what happens! These trees are… so TALL!

  11. My eyes don’t want to believe the straight rows, but it’s a very pretty sight!

  13. Fascinating. I didn’t see that during my all-too-brief visit to Wisconsin, but clearly see the rows in your photo. And a lovely photo it is, too.

  17. Planting them in rows–how tidy, how interesting to try to straighten up the forest. I love how one side is plastered with snow, the other side not. Great shot!
