Snow: It’s Everywhere, It’s Everywhere!

Today is the third day of our four day road trip to Tucson.

So far, we’ve traveled through five states–Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma–and we have three more to visit–Texas, New Mexico and Arizona–before we arrive at our final destination. I’ve traveled in these southern tier states during winter, but I’ve never seen so much snow this far south and west in February.

Heavy snow and peaked drifts on the sides of the roads in Kansas, snow piles five feet deep in Oklahoma. Then we hit a rainstorm in Oklahoma City which turned the roads into slushy puddles. And west of Oklahoma City, there is more bitter cold weather, snow and then sleet predicted for later today. Weather has been a challenge for people in all parts of the country this year!

Today is also Super Bowl Sunday – Green Bay Packers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers. I’ve been a Packer fan since moving to Wisconsin more than three decades ago. It’s hard NOT to be a Packer Backer when you live in Wisconsin! (Though I do not own a Cheesehead hat.)

Depending on how our travels go, we’ll either watch the game with wonderful blogging friends in the Albuquerque area, or we’ll stop at the first hotel we see along I-40 when kick-off time approaches. After all, the Packers haven’t played in a Super Bowl in 14 years. Can’t miss kick-off! Nor do I think it’s safe to drive the car while listening to the Super Bowl on the radio. Just saying’!

I’m hoping for good weather today and light traffic because I would love to cheer for my Packers in the company of friends!

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. 1. Wonderful winter image. The fence pulls my eye in and through. Nice complementary contrast between snow and sky. Happy travelling.

  2. Amazing!!! I’ve heard that the entire country is blanketed in snow. I guess you’re seeing it for yourself. Gorgeous winter image!

Blanketed with much more snow than I want to drive through. I’ve had enough snow for this season, pretty or not! 🙂

  3. Joanne Keevers says

What a beautiful photo, Bo, even though you are trying to avoid the snow!

I have no idea about the Green Bay Packers, with being in Australia, but I do hope they do you proud! 🙂

I’m not doing a very good job of avoiding snow. Wondering if the snow systems are following me to the desert???

  4. Your photo is one of the most beautiful snow photos I’ve seen in some time, Bo. The composition, the blues, the feeling – wow. SO, that said, GO PACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!! We’re rooting for your team tonight at our Super Bowl Party!!! Woo hoo!!!

    • Bo Mackison says

I’m having a little Super Bowl Party too–just Sherpa and me. Hope it’s a good game with a POSITIVE outcome. Yep, GO PACK!

  5. Wonderful photo, Bo.

I hope you are settled in someplace warm and enjoying the game. I live in almost-Steelers territory and have other connections in that direction so I’m going to have to oppose you on this one. Here’s hoping it’s an interesting game. 😀

  6. For someone who is sick of snow, you sure do make it look beautiful! The high desert has a lot of snow, too, and I-40 is often closed. Us desert rats like to look at photos of snow, but we are glad we are out of it. Come join us where it will be 72 today!

  7. Goodness that is a beautiful image….*sigh*
