Marcie Scudder and I have been trading comments back and forth on our photography blogs for…well, I’ll go look it up.

Thirty seconds of research in the WordPress stats and I discover that Marcie wrote her first comment on my Seeded Earth blog on July 14, 2008. And in slightly less than three years, she has written 548 comments on this blog. When Marcie drops in to visit Seeded Earth, I feel like an old friend is stopping by. When I visit Marcie’s blog, Daily Practice, I feel as if I am about to rap on her window and shout “hello-o-o-o”, while waiting for my invitation to join her for a cup of tea (or maybe a glass of iced tea in this weather.)

In the last few years, we’ve discovered that while Marcie lives on the East Coast and I live in the Midwest, we still have a lot in common. We were both born in the same decade – the nifty fifties, though I won’t say any more than that! We each have three children, and until a few months ago, all six of our offspring were in that twenty-something category.

I love architecture and often take photographs of historic buildings; Marcie is an architect and works with the details of design. We both love to write, exploring our worlds with thought-provoking perspectives. We both appreciate the small things in life.

And we are both photographers. We both have a goal of posting a daily photograph on our respective blogs, though Marcie is a bit more successful in this endeavor. But photography plays an important and daily part in both of our lives.

As Marcie says on her blog, one day she realized she was missing out on the journey, so focused was she on reaching her destination.  So she “picked up my camera anew and began what quickly became a daily exercise in recording the world as I view it through my camera lens. The ‘practice’, as I have come to know it, is about finding the new and extraordinary in the everyday ordinary. . . It is a reminder that there is hidden magic in the details, if we actually stop and to look and to see.”

Marcie has a feature on her blog called the Saturday Salon, and once a month she interviews another photographer. This month, I am privileged to be the photographer featured on Saturday Salon. I do hope you will stop by and read what the two of us chatted about.
