Takin’ It Easy

The Meadow Garden

The Meadow Garden

The Meadow Garden at Olbrich Botanical Gardens is one of my favorite places in Madison. The garden, based on English meadow gardens, almost takes care of itself. So the going (and growing) is easy. Much of the garden features a low maintenance fescue grass which requires hardly any care at all. A couple of mowings–one in late spring, one in late fall–and no watering or fertilizer make this a “grow easy” garden.

I love to sit here, settle in a bit, and day-dream. Everyone needs a good place to let their dreams wander and slowly take form. And this is as good a place as I’ve found. There’s a bit of magic in the bench under the shade tree, with the stone path curving here and there.

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  2. Botanical gardens are among the best innovations man has come up with ………especially since it is so difficult to go for a stroll in the country anymore. A very pleasant photo.

  3. Benches are among my favorite subjects. This one is in an idyllic spot surrounded by intoxicating beauty.
