The Pattern of Ferns

Ferns in the Conservatory

Patterns of Ferns © 2012 Bo Mackison

The miracle is not to fly in the air, or walk on the water, but to walk on the earth. ~ Chinese Proverb

The ferns were in thick clumps in the conservatory at the New York Botanical Gardens, and offered plenty of opportunities to shoot them in different positions, layers, color combinations. This photo ended up as my favorite – very simple, a pair of ferns, side by side.

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. Love this series, and really like that the predominant color of the series seems to be green. Moving away from the dry, sere and drought mentality back into the lush, green, productive path. Nicely done!

  2. Such gorgeous color..and exquisite detail. Love the patterns the ferns create. Nice composition!

I do believe almost all photographers could be happily occupied for hours, if they had only a few ferns and their camera of choice!

  3. Nice to meet you Bo, you have here some great work!
Thank you for visiting my blog, I hope you enjoy the August Break 🙂

  4. I like this a lot! that was my immediate reaction. Light, airy, layered.
