To the Friendly Skies

United Terminal at O"Hare International Airport, Chicago

O’Hare International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, and one of the largest. So I am always grateful when I can take the moving walkway through the terminal from one plane’s arrival gate to the connecting plane’s departure gate.

And these walkways were long enough, I was able to take more than a few photographs. They came out in a funky kind of way — appropriate, I think, for the beginning of a journey.

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. 1. I like this one! Very colorful!

Not a fan of airports, but O’Hare has made it easier to wait. A few decades ago a wait here was utter misery – now there are art shows, entertainment, not bad at all! I swear I could ride this people mover and look at the lights for an hour.

  2. I agree with Montucky – colorful and cool.

  3. Cool shot, Bo. It has a futuristic quality to it.

  4. I haven’t flown all that much, but I find the airports so surreal when I do. Almost like being in another world.

  5. Ooooo I really DO love this one. The lines fascinate me as do the color “gradations.”

The lines really fascinated me, too. So much so that, with my camera pointed upwards, I forgot the rules about standing still on the right of the people mover, walking on the left, and got in a couple of hurried travelers way. Ooops!

My daughter quickly gave me instructions in proper airport etiquette. And that is a good thing to know!

  6. Haha, very cool. Looks a little “sci-fi” if you will forgive the term. I like this one a lot. Something different too.
