Twisted Pomegranate Bonsai

When I was at the Chicago Botanic Gardens in early July, I spent the early morning shooting some of the bonsai trees in the Bonsai Garden in the Frances Searle Courtyard. I do not know much about these small, pruned trees, only that this one had just been freshly watered by the gardener and that the morning light was casting a soft sidelight.

I’ve traveled the Midwest for the last five weekends, so I have posted to my blog more sporadically than usual. One more art fair this weekend (Buffalo Grove in suburban Chicago) and then I have a two week-end break with much catching up to do.

I have a several more photographs of bonsai to post and so I will do the proper research and tell you all about the lovely bonsai trees in the next few posts. In the meantime, I will enjoy this foot high twisted pomegranate, knowing nothing about it, except how wonderful its twists are to admire.

Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. 1. Bonsai was a hit here in the 90’s, but not anymore

The Botanic Gardens has a collection of more than 200 trees, and it seems like a popular exhibit. Don’t know anyone who actually is a bonsai gardener, but would love to see exactly how it is done.

I know very little about bonsai trees, Bo, other than they are an absolute delight to behold! How creative for whoever it was, who thought, “how about we try growing massive trees as minatures”! I love them. 🙂

  3. What a lovely bonsai! Longwood Gardens had a pomegranate bonsai that was blooming. It only had two red flowers, but they seemed perfectly placed.

I can see why this captured your attention. The side lighting is wonderful.

I’d love to see it with fruit on it–don;t know if that happens, though. Bet the flowers were pretty!

  4. I don’t know much about bonsai trees or gardens so I look forward to your research and education on the matter. Perhaps what’s old is new again (at least as far as the US is concerned).

  5. They’re like little sculptures – botanical art. A lovely bonsai..and so beautifully captured!

  6. Lovely bonsai! My brother is a bonzai gardener. I do love their subtle twists and turns. Equally lovely are the shadows they cast. This one is so charming in its intricacy!
