Though we are still firmly entrenched in summer, and have the record heat waves across the country to prove it, signs of change are easy to find. This prairie, only a few weeks ago awash with myriad colors of flowers, is now gradually turning flowers to seeds. The muted colors of autumn slowly replace the brights and bolds of summer. Hot, still days turn warm and breezy.
I feel as though I am waving “hello” as autumn approaches.

Seeded Earth Photography and my “Garden Gallery” are headed to Baraboo, Wisconsin tomorrow, Saturday, August 13, 2011, where we are participating in the Baraboo Art Classic. The art fair is located in downtown Baraboo, on the Sauk County Courthouse Square. Hours are 9 am to 4 pm.
If you are in the Wisconsin Dells/Baraboo area, stop and say hello!

We’re experiencing the same effect over here in Australia, Bo, but in the reverse, waving hello to summer, as I am seeing more and more new buds of growth on all of the plants and trees in my garden. Your photo of the flower seeds, with the remains of the petals blowing in the breeze look like little flags fluttering. 🙂
Ah, so you are heading into summer in Australia. Yes, of course.
I’ve been accepted into some winter art fairs in Arizona again, so I shall be heading back to the desert this winter for my second in a row. I’ll get my dose of summer this winter too. Yay!
Would love to see a few photos of your coming summer – do you post any?
You’re going back to Arizona! That’s fantastic! I know how much you enjoy being there. How long will you be staying this time? And will Sherpa be accompanying you? I’ll look forward to seeing more scenes of the area. Arizona has a landscape like no other that I have ever seen.
Yes, I do take photos of our approaching summer and winter. One day I will have the time to learn more about photography and take better photos than I do, but at least the ones I take will give you an idea of the season changing here. 🙂
I feel like autumn is already here haven’t seen much of the summer in Holland
Chantal, isn’t the weather just odd this year? We have had an exceptionally hot summer, so I am a bit glad to see the temps moderating.
Very nice capture and prose. Indeed, the same slow turn hidden in plain sight is taking place here in Kansas. I watch the colors of the fields. When summer is in its last days, the greens become more yellow-green with slight hues of red and brown. By autumn the reds and browns deepen. Yes, the flowers are turning to seed.
Thanks, Anna. It is easy to see the changes, once one begins to look. The colors seem to just fade before my eyes!
Hello there Bo! I just wanted to say hello after you were so kind to me at today’s art fair in Baraboo. (I was the teenager with the hurt leg.) I look forward to following your blog and looking at your work for inspiration. Thanks!
Kortney, what a sweet thing, to come say hello and leave a comment. I enjoyed talking with you, too. I am so glad you have found inspiration here — photographing botanicals is a great activity!
Yes, I can see autumn appearing over the prairie horizon. What a lovely view of the changing seasons.
It’s a cummin’! Autumn is definitely changing the landscape.
They’re somehow more beautiful – even – in their decline. Stunning!!!
A garden filled with seed heads is one of my very favorite garden scenes to observe. They have a deep beauty.
Summer may be fading a bit, but it still has time for some bite.
