Wyoming High Range – Cross Country Travel

High Plains ©2010 Bo Mackison

Traveling from the Badlands in South Dakota to Yellowstone National Park, we traveled through western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. In Wyoming, the landscape changed rather suddenly from irrigated farm fields to sagebrush high range.

It was one of only a couple of times that we pulled the car over and I took a few photographs. I learned the hard way how difficult it is to try to travel 2o hours with a minimum of stops. I passed by hundreds of places I wanted to photograph, but knew I couldn’t stop we would never get further west than Iowa. It was a long two and a half days to get to Yellowstone.

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. A stunning landscape. Love the colors..the shapes and forms!

  2. I like that kind of country too, but sure know what you mean about those long drives!

    • Bo Mackison says

We’ve cut our other long driving day into two days. Decided we don’t have the stamina for those long hauls any more. And it’s been so much more pleasurable, being able to stop and look.

  3. There is a real difference between how men drive and women drive, between “making good time” and “seeing with new eyes.” And I think the opposites always marry each other.

    • Bo Mackison says

Oh, I think you must be so right about opposites marrying each other, but my question is “Why do we do it?”

  4. Oh, I know what you mean, Bo. Traveling is delightful but I want to take copious amount of photographs everywhere…..which means we wouldn’t get ANYwhere soon! I am enjoying seeing our country through you.
