Yellow Lily – A Photo Visit in My Garden

Yellow Lily at Chicago Botanic Garden

It’s a cloudy day in Wisconsin, a good day to share this bright bit of yellow – a day lily photographed at the Chicago Botanic Gardens this past weekend.

I sooooo wanted to call this photograph “Lello Lily” in honor of my youngest who pronounced the word ‘yellow’ by substituting ‘l’ for the ‘y’ — and did so long after she could easily say the word ‘yellow’ correctly. She simply loved the way it sounded. Often another family member would call something ‘lello’ also — it always brought on the giggles.

She will so love the sound of these two words combined — ‘Lello Lilly’.

Awakening – The Wild Onion in Spring

Couldn’t resist trying to capture the almost abstract lines of  these three drooping stems. Looks like the flowers are from the onion family, but uncertain of an ID. Photographed in a private garden in Madison, Wisconsin.

Bellflowers at Univrsity of British Columbia Arboretum in Vancouver

This is one of my newest botanical photographs, a delicate set of multicolored flowers. I photographed them in the culinary gardens at the University of British Columbia Arboretum in Vancouver while on my recent trip to the Pacific coast. This is one mighty fine arboretum and includes a historical Japanese garden as well as that beloved canopy walk on suspension bridges in the tops of the trees.

This will be one of many new photos available for the first time on Saturday.

I’d love to see you at the show if you’re in the area!

Pike’s Place Market – From Garden to You

Pike's Place Market in Seattle Washington

Fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish — all abound at the market at Pike’s Place, located just off the waterfront in Seattle, Washington. The Market opened in 1907 and is one of the oldest continually operated public farmers’ markets in the United States. Not only is it a place of business for many small farmers, it has many merchants, craftspeople and artisans displaying their crafts.

(I ended up buying a jar of handmade caramel sauce, gently flavored with tequila. Indulging in two of my favorites — caramel and tequila. However, I don’t think I’ve ever combined the two in one taste treat before. It was yummy!)
