A Field of Cosmos

For a wild, abandoned look of beauty, I love a field of cosmos. They crinkle and dip low to the ground, then spring back. Nothing neat and tidy about cosmos, they always remind me of the “unmade bed” portion of an otherwise well tended garden. I do love these flowers.

Photographed at the West Madison Test Gardens, the experimental garden site of the University of Wisconsin in Madison Wisconsin.

Poppy Sunset

Just before crossing the border from Washington state into British Columbia, Canada, we stopped fora short break at the International Border Park. The park had a small sculpture garden and quite a few beds of flowers including one with a huge stand of blooming poppies. I took a few photographs before getting back in the car and joining the stream of cars heading through customs.

Today I worked with several of the poppy images, including this macro shot of a poppy interior. When I desaturated the colors, the photograph of the poppy  reminded me of the sunset I had just watched through my studio window.

Glowing Water Lily

This purple water lily, photographed in the water gardens at Chicago Botanic Garden, seemed to have its own light source from deep within. The lilies were a lovely treat at the gardens, four formal pools, all filled with different colors of lilies – deep purple, yellow, light pink, and this lily, a lovely deep pink.

It’s a bright sunny morning in Wisconsin-land. In a bit, Sherpa and I are packing the U-haul and car with our show tent set-up and my  photographs. We are traveling to Oshkosh where I will have an art booth at Faire on the Green at the Paine Art Center. Booth 70. The show is on Sunday, July 11, and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you are in the area, come visit! Look for the Seeded Earth Studio sign and be sure to say hello!
