Santa Fe at Sunset ©2008 Bo Mackison

Our first night in Santa Fe, we watched storm clouds gathering over the city. Forecasters gave dire warnings of a foot of snow in the nearby Sangre de Cristo mountains and possible accumulation on the streets of this high elevation city. Since rain/sleet/snow were all possibilities, we decided to stay in Santa Fe another night and then head into the mountains when sunshine was expected to make a comeback on Wednesday morning..

Santa Fe is an interesting destination, even when it is rainy and cold. There are many museums in the city and the Plaza area offers dozens and dozens of stores and galleries for browsing, oohing and ahhing, and inspiration gathering. And need I even mention the Southwest eateries? I thought not.

Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. 1. Bo,

    Beautiful sunrise image.

Your image brought back memories of our visit to that area in the 90’s. We stayed at a resort called The Star Hill Inn near Las Vegas New Mexico where we had beautiful night skies to view through our telescope.

  2. Another stunning image, Bo!

  3. Beautiful! The colors in the sky are inspiring. The sky is really brooding.

  5. Love Santa Fe, and love this beautiful capture of Santa Fe in the sunset. 🙂

  6. Glorious! Thanks for sharing your travels with us – we’re enjoying the SW vicariously through your camera and prose.

  7. Stunning sunset and silhouette. I agree. Santa Fe truly is a wonderful destination.

  8. Your photo really brought back memories for me! Over 40 years ago I took a painting class, and my first attempt was a painting that featured a mission in silhouette with an almost identical orange and gray sky. This is so “Santa Fe” that one could instantly identify the locale–at least that is my belief. Thanks for the memories!

  10. Great one, Bo. You hit some good weather (not always sunny and warm, but lots of variety). I love when we get big clouds and moisture in NM.
