This unusual plant is formally called the Allium Bulgaricum, but really, it is a member of the well-known onion family, even though it doesn’t LOOK like an onion nor does it SMELL like an onion and it defitely did not make my eyes water when I got near enough to photograph it.
It is quite the unusual flower as it has a cascade of small bell-shaped flowers arching from the center of the plant. These flowers are a wondrous mix of unexpected colors – pale yellow, dusty pink, a light shade of magenta, a bit of bluish-green.
Typically they flower in May and June, but this year I saw a few blooming as late as mid-July.

Is it edible? It would certainly pretty up your everyday cheeseburger. 🙂
It reminds me of the fireworks that explode and then cascade streamers of glistening light towards the ground.
Very nice.
It does have a nice arch like a firework cascade, G. Not so sure you’d want it on your cheeseburger though, unless you were washing it down with a cold one.
That’s a very pretty photo! We have one here that is similar, called the “Nodding Onion” (Allium cernuum). It does smell and taste like an onion.
Oh, I like the nodding onion too. I think they are so delicate, especially with a bit of a breeze.
It is a nice looking flower, onion or not, LOL
Guess an onion has as much right to a pretty flower as any other plant…LOL.
A delicate and unusual flower. I’m partial to flowers of the onion family.
Thanks, Anita. I saw some of your onion flowers on your blog. They were lovely.
