Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul. ~John Muir

This 120 year old stone fence is a boundary of Pope Farms, 5 miles west of Madison, Wisconsin. Photographed in early October, 2007.

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. This is an absolutely stunning photo. Beautiful! Nice blog too! 🙂

  2. I like the distribution of space in this photo……… the preponderance of sky with clouds, the angle of the rock wall and the darkened land next to it, the contrast in the textures,……… and then there is that tree in just the right place.

  3. a great combination of the lonesome tree, the wall, and an awesome sky that seems to suck one right into the picture. With one of these elements missing the photo would not have the charm or the impact. Lovely!

  4. This is outstanding Barbara!

  5. beautiful clouds

    outstanding!

  7. Thanks to all for your comments. It was one of my first tries at an ‘artsy’ kind of shot and I like it, too.
