If you strive for the moon, maybe you’ll get over the fence.
James Wood

The only fences found in Door County, WI are either rows of piled stones from field clearing or these wooden criss-crosses from forest clearing. Probably only effective for cows since at least they can’t jump (except over moons.)

Photographed in Ephraim, a hamlet of 400 people who tolerate 6 months of lake-effect, northern Wisconsin winter for 6 months of simple beauty.

It is in deep solitude that I find the gentleness with which I can truly love my brothers. The more solitary I am the more affection I have for them…. Solitude and silence teach me to love my brothers for what they are, not for what they say. ~ Thomas Merton

Photographed in central Door County, Wisconsin on October 6, 2007 on a rainy weekend.

Early Morning Fog

Derive happiness in oneself from a good day’s work, from illuminating the fog that surrounds us. ~ Henri Matisse

I was driving too fast on the Door County country roads to reach Lake Michigan which often affords lovely sunrises but inland fog was slowing my efforts. I finally slowed the car enough to look out and appreciate the opportunity for a different type of picture altogether. This landscape is quite appropriate for an October morn.
