Water Lilies

Water Lilies at the Chicago Botanic Gardens

Water Lilies © 2010 Bo Mackison

There is a new article in my series,  Memoir Space, now up on The Calm Space, an online magazine published by Karen Wallace.

In the article, I share an excerpt of a letter I wrote to a special woman in my life, and show how easy it is to write a bit of your life story. It’s as easy as writing a letter – yes, a handwritten letter! – and including it in a special occasion card. Go ahead. Take a minute and read  Spreading Happiness by Sharing Memories.

The water lilies were photographed at Chicago Botanic Garden. I’ve been working with desaturated photographs, and in this photo, I left only a hint of the original color, while keeping the emphasis on the two sunlit lilies.

Hope you enjoy both the article and the lilies.

About Bo Mackison

I'm a photographer, book-artist, traveler, naturalist, and creator of the Contemplative Creatives Journey, An Online Workshop and Community and Desert Wisdom Cards and Workshops. Though often not well known, I find the desert a welcoming place - a healing space. Its mysteries and gifts transformed me several years ago. Since that first encounter, I return again and again to fill my well in what most people think of as a desolate region. I'd love to share my desert discoveries and wisdom with you. Please subscribe to receive my five part mini email course The Gifts of the Desert. It's my gift to you.

  1. This is gorgeous, Bo. I like the desaturated effect as the emphasis is on the glowing water lilies.

  2. I love the feel of this photo. I find it very satisfying, but I can’t put my finger on it. In addition, I can’t miss the obvious question – how do you desaturate a water lilly sitting in a whole bunch of water? 🙂

  3. Wow, that turned out nice!

  4. These are absolutely stunning. Such gorgeous light. Magical!!!

  5. Beautiful processing. Glorious light!

I’m off to read your article….

  6. Every time I think I have a favorite, you come up with a new one that instantly becomes the new favorite. I love this one, Bo.

Great article at Calm Space, too.

  7. Very, very nice. And I stopped over at the other site to read the memoir post. So lovely, just like this.

  8. This photo takes me back in time…wondering near a pond, daydreaming
