Skirting the rocks at the forest edge
With a running flame from ledge to ledge,
Or swaying deeper in shadowy glooms,
A smoldering fire in her dusky blooms;
Bronzed and molded by wind and sun,
Maddening, gladdening every one
With a gypsy beauty full and fine —
Health to the crimson columbine!~ Elaine Goodale Eastman (1863 – 1953)
Still working on a set of photographs I took in our back yard gardens. The Columbine is one of the easiest plants to grow, and I think one of the most beautiful. Like a fairy’s cap or a tiny lit lantern or maybe even an aerialist mid-air.

very beautiful image Bo
Thank you, Chantal. So pleased that you stopped and commented.
Turk’s Cap floating in mid-air. Very nice.
It does look like it’s another floater. I’ve had a few flowers this season that appear to be suspended in space–love that look!
I especially like the poem. New to me.
Yes, it was new to me, too. It’s lovely, isn;t it…
Love the poem…love the image. Other-wordly beauty!
Yes!!!
The poem and image are wonderful.
As you know, I fell in love with the columbine this year. Interesting to hear it’s easy to grow as I could not get mine to grow at all. I started with seeds. I may try plants next year.
Columbine is a biennial–every other year flowers. Bet yours dropped seed and will come up again, much stronger, next year.
