A true summer flower, the zinnia, dressed in the spectrum of hot colors – bright yellow and deep orange. I have always loved the crown effect in the center of the flower, the yellow ring much like a crown. A queen of a flower!

Zinnias are such beautiful flowers. I love the way you captured this one, Bo.
We planted columbines this year instead of zinnias, and they didn’t do well. I miss the zinnias. I think I’ll try both next year. That way I’ll still have the Queen of Summer around to look at. 🙂
Columbines are biennials, they drop seeds one year, flower the next. I find they get stronger as the years go by. Started with a couple of plants from my grandmother’s old garden site, now I have a huge patch.
I like the idea of both — columbine are rather short-lived, and an early bloomer. Zinnias come a bit later but last most the summer.
That’s gorgeous, Bo! What a beauty!
They are one of the most striking of my garden flowers. I think it;s the hot summer colors that get so much attention.
I love the colors in this photo, so vivid and rich
Vivid and rich, just like summer. Yes?
that one jumps off the monitor. Wow!!!
If it jumped off the monitor is it on your desk, or maybe you put it in a vase of water… 🙂
This is gorgeous! How in the world did you get this in its brilliant color without blowing out? Did you photograph this in diffused light? Wowzers!
Thanks Anna. Used a white diffuser disc plus a few well placed trees helped cut the summer light.
