Bird of Paradise

Bird of Paradise Photograph from Olbrich Gardens in Madison Wisconsin

Bird of Paradise @ 2010 Bo Mackison

I photographed this unusual flower, or at least this unusually named flower. I guess to someone, this flower looked like a bird. In Paradise, no less.

Supposedly it does resemble the real bird of paradise, a tropical bird found in New Guinea. Hmm. Paradise?

Photographed at the Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison Wisconsin.

This particular clematis is growing on my mailbox. At least, it had its beginning at the base of my mailbox. We have had such remarkable growing weather, the clematis has grown so tall that its tendrils have grasped the maple tree that hovers above it, and is now climbing, ever upward, along the branch of the maple.

Purple Bells

Been searching for an ID on this flowering cluster of dark purple bells, but no luck so far. Seen at the urban Allen Centennial Gardens at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

This is the photographer’s view, flat on back on cold stone garden path. I think that adds to the photo, on a personal note, at least. Brings back such interesting memories of me trying to right myself after spending a half hour on the ground. Good thing I have a monopod that can double as a walking stick!
